Mission Notes
December 4, 2011 by Pastor Dave Scifres
We would like to thank everyone who helped with and participated in our second annual “Trunk and Treat” on Halloween, especially all who worked the hotdog stand. The evening was a huge success and just as importantly, a great time for all. If you missed out on the fun, we encourage you to join us next year. We estimated at least 700 hundred people walked through our parking lot that evening and felt the love and excitement of being part of Main Street Church. Another awesome outreach to our community.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD 2011 – AN AMAZING YEAR!!
Main Street UMC – our goal this year began with 125 boxes. With the overwhelming donations, we increased that goal to 150. The actual total exceeded even that goal!! (A few boxes were donated after the official church count was taken.)
The total boxes collected through our Collection Station was 775 shoeboxes!! That is 151 more than 2010. The generosity of our church family as well as the county of Miami in times when so many are struggling with finances is absolutely amazing. These boxes will be distributed within the United States as well as around the world. Just imagine, if you can, 775 smiles – what an image to take from this mission project.
Volunteers Still Needed for Christmas on Main Street on December 4th:
- Greeters/Ushers for the Concert
- Helpers for the Santa Shop and Wrapping Table
- Help with Supper
Hats/Mittens/Coats (new or gently used) are still being collected for Birthright (up to size 4) and local children needing warm winter outerwear.
Greeting cards for the troops will be collected through December 15 – please drop off in the bin at the back of the sanctuary.
Helping Hands and Salvation Army continue to need food and paper products. The need in our community grows daily. Please remember these folks when you are out shopping and drop off your donations in our Mission Center bins.
The Missions Committee wishes everyone a very Merry Christmas and blessings for a happy and healthy New Year.
